| Description: The entrance to the Admiralty Victualling Yard, called the Royal Victoria Yard after the visit of Queen Victoria in 1858. She commanded that it should be named after her. It produced and furnished non-naval supplies to Royal Navy vessels leaving London, and was the largest of the Admiralty Victualling Yards, the other two being at Gosport (The Royal Clarence Yard) and Plymouth (The Royal William Yard). In the Royal Victoria Yard there were a fine collection of 18th and 19th century buildings, some of which have been preserved. |
