| Description: Work on the 'Warrior' began at the Thames Ironworks on 25 May 1859. The eventual cost of the ship to the Admiralty was £357,291 (nearly £17 million in current money). The ironworks actually made a loss during the building of 'Warrior', but the firm's success in building such an innovative ship established its reputation throughout the world and further orders soon flooded in. |
