Description: The Gas, Light and Coke Company's Beckton Gas Works opened in 1870. For many years, it was the largest gasworks in Europe. The chief engineers of the project were F. J. Evans, J. Orwell Phillips and V. Wyatt (shown here left to right). The construction of the works was one of the largest engineering projects ever undertaken in London.
