Description: Coal-fuelled steam turbines drove the dynamos that generated the electricity at stations like Deptford. Designed by Sebastian de Ferranti, engineer to the London Electric Supply Corporation, Deptford was typical of the coal-burning stations in which most electricty was generated in the early 20th century.
