Description: The painting shows a sailing ship being refitted in a small dry dock. Such ships made long-distance voyages - not only to Brazil, but also to Asia and Australia - throughout the 19th century, long after the arrival of steamships. The picture was exhibited at the Royal Academy, in 1883.
