Description: The West Ham Borough Council's Canning Town Generating Station was opened on Tucker Street in 1903. It provided electricty for the Borough of West Ham. In this photograph the cooling ponds are evident in the foreground. The ponds were used to cool the hot water that was a by-product of the electricity generating process.
