| Description: The 'Atlas', one of the Metropolitan Asylums Board's floating smallpox hospitals in Long Reach. She had been launched in 1860 as a 91-gun man-of-war, but was never fully completed for service. She became the Board's temporary smallpox hospital during the epidemic of 1881, when she lay off Deptford Creek. Between 1884 and 1902, she was the main hospital ship in Long Reach. |
