Description: The growth in the capital's maritime trade during the 18th century, along with the presence of the Royal Navy's dockyards at Woolwich and Deptford, brought more and more ships to the Port of London. With the ships came the sailors and inevitably there was an increase in the supply of prostitutes to meet the growing demand.
