Repro ID: H1821
Description: The SS 'Wandle' passing under Tower Bridge on her maiden voyage on 30 October 1932. She carried coal - up to 2,220 tons - for the Wandsworth and District Gas Company, and made regular journeys between the North East and the Company's gasworks at Wandsworth. She was the third vessel to use this name. The bascules of Tower Bridge did not need raising - because of their characteristic shape, these colliers were nicknamed 'flat-irons', and could navigate relatively low bridges.
