| Description: The Greenwich Yacht Club was founded by river workers in 1908. This view from the club's premises in Charlton shows the north bank of the Thames in the distance. The northern shoreline was a highly industrialised area. John Knight's soapworks, Tate & Lyle's sugar refinery and the Silvertown Rubber Works were just three of the major plants located along this stretch of the riverfront. |
