| Description: HMS 'Belfast' at Symon's Wharf in the Pool of London, with the Dutch destroyer 'Holland' berthed alongside. The cruiser 'Belfast' (1938) served in the Second World War, playing an important part in the destruction of the German battle cruiser 'Scharnhorst' at the Battle of North Cape and in the Normandy Landings. After the war, she remained in service for the United Nations and the Royal Navy until 1963. In 1971 she was saved as a reminder of Britain's naval heritage. |
