Description: A postcard showing the inside of the chapel at the Dreadnought Seamen's Hospital with the pews and prayer books included. The Society was founded in 1821 to care for sick and injured seafarers of the merchant Navy. Until 1870, the Society carried out its work on hospital ships moored at Greenwich. After this date and until its closure in 1986, the infirmary of the Royal Hospital Greenwich accommodated the Society. Currently, the Dreadnought Unit of St Thomas' Hospital, London provides medical care to seafarers.
