Description: An illustration of shipping in the Upper Pool, with Thomas Ripley's Custom House on the north (City) bank of the Thames. The river is very busy with sailing vessels and barges moored along the banks. Before the construction of the first enclosed docks, the wharves of the Upper and Lower Pools were the port of London.
