Description: The Old or Arab harbour at Mombasa. This was where the British India Steam Navigation Company (BISNC) established its East African base after 1891. The dhow trade from the Middle East to East Africa continued until the 1970s when unrest and piracy off the Somali coast, and increased container traffic in the Indian Ocean signalled its final death.
