Fires in the docks
| Repro ID: H3750 |
| Description: The Port of London was the most heavily bombed civilian target in Britain. Thousands of high-explosive bombs and incendiary bombs caused extensive damage to the dock system. The timber ponds in the Surrey Docks blazed from end to end for a whole week. A third of the warehouses and transit sheds were destroyed. This sound file describes the fires at the docks on the first night of the Blitz, 7 September 1940. |
