Description: Farrington was commissioned to paint this image by the Navy Board. It is a panoramic, almost aerial view of Deptford Dockyard in the late 18th century. The painting, absent of figures, resembles a plan and the vessels in the foreground provide an indication of scale. Farington was a topographical painter who became a member of the Royal Academy in 1785.
