| Description: Trinity House pilots were skilled mariners and provided a vital service to ships bound for British ports. The pilotage service usually operated from pilot cutters when transferring to and from vessels. A Trinity House pilot's licence was renewed annually at which time his eyesight, general health and knowledge of local waters were tested. |
