Description: This celestial floor globe by the famous Dutch globe maker, Willem Bleau forms one half of a pair of globes (the other terrestrial) housed at the National Maritime Museum. The globe gives the names of constellations and stars in Latin, Greek and Arabic. The constellations shown on this globe come from Ancient Greece (via Arabic translations on the work of Ptolemy) and from the 16th century explorer Plancius.
