Description: The East Greenwich Gasworks dominated the skyline on the Greenwich Peninsula. The works were built by the South Metropolitan Gas Company in the 1880s. Gas production ended in 1976 after the discovery of North Sea gas. Part of the site of the former gasworks is now home to the Millennium Dome. |
