Title: HMS Resolution and Discovery at Moorea.
Description: The 'Resolution' was fitted out at Deptford for Cook's third voyage of exploration. She was a type of ship called a bark, chosen by Cook for its convenient size and sturdy construction. She is shown here with the 'Discovery' in 1777 at Moorea in the Society Islands. During the voyage, Cook charted the Alaskan coast and became the first European to discover Hawaii. He was killed by Hawaiian islanders during a dispute in February 1779.
