Over the past four centuries thousands of people born in Africa have come to the port of London. Due to Britain's role in the Atlantic trade much has been written about people from West Africa.

This narrative is about the less known Swahili-speaking community from Eastern Africa and its connections with Zanzibar and the Indian Ocean slave trade.
