Scandinavian seamen in London

The move to Tilbury
Scandinavian timber exports to London now pass through Tilbury's Conventional Goods Department.
The churches today
The Scandinavian churches in London are still linked with the seamen's missions. However, with the closure of the inner London docks, their work has changed.
London is no longer host to hundreds of Scandinavian seamen, and the transient community is no more.
Instead, the churches' pastoral duties are now more likely to involve a visit to the Port of London terminals further downriver.
The churches still attract large congregations, and still act as important centres of community life. However, they now cater for settled or permanent communities of Scandinavians working or studying in London.
