Repro ID: H3138
Description: When the London & Greenwich Railway - the first in London - was built, the bridge across the Ravensbourne had to allow ships to pass. The first bridge had a drawbridge section, and required 8 men to open it. The picture shows the later bridge of 1884. This required a team of twelve men to open, and the whole operation took over an hour. The latest bridge, opened in 1963, is electrically operated.
