| Description: Stationed at a particular post, an ARP Warden would report air raid damage, assist local inhabitants, warn people about unexploded devices and seal off affected areas. The wardens had to have a detailed knowledge of the local area, where any dangerous substances were located, where useful rescue materials might be situated and the location of the local rest centres, first aid posts and hospitals. In many ways, they were the cornerstone of London's Civil Defence. |
