| Description: The company wharf of the Thames Refinery, founded by Henry Tate in 1871. The firm of Henry Tate & Son later merged with another Silvertown refinery belonging to Abram Lyle to form the Tate & Lyle company. The sugar refineries on the Thames depended entirely on the river for deliveries of raw materials. |
