Topaze

A Topaze was a name given to Christian Indian militiamen and sailors usually from the Portuguese settlements in India, in particular Bombay, Goa, Cochin, Madras and Bengal.

Later in the eighteenth century the term was applied by the British to any Christian Indian soldiers and seamen.
