Goan alter dedicated to St. Francis Xavier on board the SS 'Strathallan'. St Francis Xavier is the patron saint of missionaries and the Indies. His body lies in the Basilica of Bom Jesus in Goa. Goan seamen celebrated all Catholic feasts while at sea.

Goan bandsmen on the SS 'Kenya' – one of the vessels at Mombasa on BI Sunday 16 September 1951. Goans were employed by the British in India and by the Sultans of Zanzibar in the 18th century as bandsmen.

SS 'Chitral' was a former Belgian liner. Shown on her way from London Docks to Southampton for the start of the P&O Orient Service. Goans were recruited to work in the restaurant as waiters.
