Transcription for "George Thurgar - Recollections of changes in the Port of London."

George:
One of the reasons I left was because the docks were closing one-by-one and more and more I was being sent to Tilbury, which was really awkward for me because I had no transport. It would take me 2 hours to get there, 2 hours to get home. Towards the end of the… my dock life we were on 2 shifts, 7:00 till 2:00 and 2:00 till 9:00. So on the late shift I wouldn’t get home until about 11:00 at night. So when it came to get, erm… and I was in to give voluntary severance, I took voluntary severance and left altogether.
