Transcription for "June Smith - The hungry brothers"

Before, there used to be a road coming down here and I remember from when I was little, there used to be a gate here and a gate over the other side. And my grandfather and his six brothers always used to work together. There used to be thousands and thousands of men all lined up, most of them wearing caps. And they’d be waiting for the foreman. All the man had tickets and they would wait for the foreman to call them up to work in the docks. He’d might say: ‘Can the seven hungry brothers come to work?’ So they’d say: ‘Oh!’ and they’d give their tickets and go off to work. They would work all day and come back and get their tickets and wages from the foreman. Then the six brothers would go home but my grandfather, he’d always go to the pub and get drunk. My grandmother would wait and get worried because she didn’t have any money and he would come home very late.
