Description: The General Steam Navigation Company was formed in 1824 in Greenwich. It operated services between London and many British and continental ports, and also ran pleasure services on the Thames. It briefly ran lines to Africa and the Americas. The GNSC was taken over by P&O in 1920 but retained its identity until 1972.
