Description: The Canary Wharf estate extends over 86 acres and is so called because it was built on a section of the West India Dock that, during the 1930s, received imports from the Canary Islands. Approximately six million net square feet of office and retail space has been built to date with a further 8.1 million square feet under construction. Over 55,000 people work on the estate. The current development comprises of eighteen office buildings, a retail centre, conference and banqueting centre, a Docklands Light Railway station and a London Underground station.
