| Description: One of the many rejected proposals for a Thames Barrier, this one clearly dates from the time when the Thames was still a major commercial highway. It envisaged a dam rather than a barrier, with a road bridge on top. To allow shipping to pass, the dam had six large locks and the road could be raised by a bascule arrangement. |
