| Description: By the 1960s road transport was successfully competing with the railways and barges in the Port of London. Road haulage began to improve with major highway developments in the early 1930s. These included the widening of the main road over the River Lea and the construction of Silvertown Way. The latter project relieved the inadequate approaches to the Royal Docks. By 1970 the PLA had stopped using railway services. |
