Title: Chart showing the tracks of the ships on Cook's three voyages.
Description: This chart was drawn up by Lieutenant Henry Roberts, who sailed on Cook's voyages. The tracks show the criss-crossing of the South Pacific in search of the mythical southern continent. It also shows the Bering Strait, explored in order to find the North-East Passage joining the North Pacific and the North Atlantic. The North-West coast of America, however, is suspiciously straight as Cook's ships kept well off the shore in their journey north to look for the North-West passage.
