| Description: Fireman Tom Betts was injured in the Silvertown explosion on 19 January 1917. He was buried in rubble as the local fire station collapsed, but was rescued by men from the Royal Army Medical Corps several hours later. Mr Betts was one of the lucky survivors, 73 other people were not so fortunate. |
