| Description: Silvertown was first developed in the 1850s around the rubber and telegraph works of S. W. Silver and Co. It gradually grew along the Thames bank with chemical and engineering works, an oil refinery, and food and confectionery factories. Tate and Lyle have had their main works in Silvertown since the 1880s. |
