| Description: The Mare and Co. Iron and Shipping Works, forerunner of the Thames Ironworks. The establishment had been founded by the experienced ship designer, Thomas Ditchburn, and the naval architect Charles Mare. They initially opened their yard at Dudman's Dock, Deptford, and then transferred it to the Orchard Shipyard, by Bow Creek, in 1838. |
