Description: This is a page from Cook's journal for the first leg of his second voyage of discovery. On a Saturday in August 1772 Cook wrote: 'At 10 o'clock in the evening after having taken on board a supply of wine and other necessaries and completed our water we left the Island of Madeira.' Further down the page he mentions the chronometers H4 and K1 that were on board.
