| Description: Grace Darling was born in 1815 and achieved great fame for the rescue she made with her father, keeper of the Longstone lighthouse, when the 'Forfarshire', a paddle-steamer bound from Hull to Dundee, was wrecked on the Farne Islands on 7 September 1838. Grace became the archetypal Victorian heroine in the aftermath of her daring rescue. |
