Title: London Docks, looking west, by Thomas Hosmer Shepherd.
Description: A depiction of the London Docks in 1831. The docks were clearly thriving at this time, with many vessels at the quays. 1831 was also the year in which cholera spread throughout Europe. Although the disease pushed slowly westwards overland, it spread rapidly through the ports.
Creator: Thomas H. Shepherd (artist): M. J. Starling (engraver): Jones & Co. (publishers)
Date: 1831
