| Description: Greenwich pensioners with their baggage outside Greenwich Hospital at its closure in 1865. All were provided with annuities to support them in other care. Pensioners could stay in the hospital until death. However, Greenwich Hospital never gave adequate support to the wives and children of the pensioners. If a pensioner wanted to get married, he had to give up his place in the hospital. |
