| Description: This was a monster gathering of striking dock workers in the last few days of the 1889 strike. Just over a week later, they returned to work having gained a substantial pay rise - the 'Dockers' Tanner' - recognition of their union, and several other concessions. The 1889 strike was a milestone in British labour history. With the success of the strike, workers throughout the country, particularly the unskilled, gained a new confidence to organise themselves and carry out collective action. |
