| Description: Thomas Clarkson was a leading member of the ‘Society for Effecting the Abolition of the Slave Trade’. He worked tirelessly to build both public and political support for the cause. During the late 18th century he toured Britain’s ports to gather information on the workings of the slave trade. His activities attracted enemies as well as supporters and during a visit to Liverpool he was attacked and was lucky not to have been killed. |
