'Which London dock played a vital, but secret, role in the D-Day campaign?'

Answer:

The East India Import Dock

• This was one of several sites in the country chosen for the construction of 'Phoenix' caissons.
• These were prefabricated concrete blocks forming part of the Mulberry harbours, which allowed easier unloading of troops and supplies after the Normandy landings.
• The Robert McAlpine Company built eight caissons at the East India Dock, and another two further down the Thames at Erith.
