Mara Rose, Granny, was born in 1825 making her 76
in 1901
Her father was William Watling, a Thames waterman.
Maria had two sisters and three brothers. The Watling
family lived in Thames Street.
Maria married Horace Rose in 1844, when she was 19.
Horace was often away at sea, so Maria and her children
lived in Thames Street with her parents.
1n 1860, Mara and the children moved into a new house
at 27 Little Thames Street. Her younger brother, Thomas, lived there too.
Granny enjoys a glass of porter
and a good song.
