 Horace Rose |
Horace Rose, Grandad, was born in 1820 making him
81 in 1901.
His father, Fortune Rose, came from Bristol. Horace
was born in Greenwich.
When his father died in 1827, Horace went to the
Royal Hospital School, Greenwich.
When he was 13 he went into the Navy. Whenever he
had leave from the Navy, he came back to Greenwich to see his friends
and family.
In 1844, aged 24, he married Maria Watling. They
had five children: George, Maria, Albert, Maud and Louisa. Later Horace
left the Navy and lived in Greenwich. He worked on boats on the river
Thames until he was well past 70. Now he has a small pension.
