The boats carry posters which are still familiar today: the newspaper
Daily Telegraph, Madame Tussauds and Colman’s Mustard among others.
In the background you can see new factories on Greenwich Marsh. The paddle
steamers in the photo may be in use as ferries. In 1901, the minutes of
Greenwich Council noted that they tried to set up a proper passenger steam
boat service but had failed, even though it was “so important to
the interests of this Borough.” |
