Lightermen insisted that cargo was stowed neatly on their lighters, and in the right order for unloading. The cargoes were stowed and unloaded by dockers, who wanted to work quickly so that they could earn more money. Differences between lightermen and dockers sometimes lead to arguments. The cargo in this photo looks neat enough.
