Hay Barge
Hay barge going into London past Wapping Dock stairs

This load of hay or straw is going into London to sell as feed or bedding for the thousands of working horses which lived in stables in the city. The hay barge is going into London on the tide. It is moving slowly with its sails scandalised (partly folded to cut down the area of sail and catch less wind).
