Tons, hundredweight stones, pounds and ounces
Nowadays everything is weighed in metric weights using
Kilograms and grams (SI units). In Britain in 1900 people would
have used Tons, Hundredweight Stones Pounds and ounces. These were
much more complicated. An ounce (oz) weighs about the same as three
£1 coins or 28 grams.
16 oz = 1 pound weight(Lb) half a bag of sugar.
14lb=1 stone (st).
8 st in a hundredweight (cwt).
20 cwt = 1 ton.
